Effectiveness of helmets in Skiers and SnowboardersAuthor: Webmaster Date: 2/11/2005
![]() A study into the effectiveness of helmets for skiers and snowboarders has been published in The British Medical Journal this month Over 4300 ski patrol accident reports from 19 ski areas in Quebec, Canada were used to provide the data for the study. Of these 1082 related specifically to skiers and snowboarders who had suffered head and/or neck related injuries In conclusion, the study states that helmets do help protect skiers and snowboarders against head injuries. There is however, the possibility of an increased risk of neck injury although 'estimates on which this assumption is based are imprecise.' To read the study in full visit theBMJ website |
