"The technique first described by David Johnson for arthroscopic surgery for Patellar Tendonitis finds international recognition."

Patellar Tendonitis is a troublesome condition which causes pain around the anterior aspect of the knee in sportsmen and women. It commonly affects jumping sports and has been termed “Jumper’s knee”. It often results in prolonged problems and frequently does not respond to rest, physiotherapy and medication.

The Bi-annual ESSKA meeting is the largest and most important meeting in Europe on Knee Surgery, Athroscopy (Keyhole surgery) and the treatment of Sports Injuries. Some 10 years ago Mr. Johnson designed a new arthroscopic technique for the treatment Patellar Tendonitis. This is one the more difficult problems to affecting the knee. Treatment is usually prolonged may be ineffective and the surgical management previous involved open surgery. Ten years ago Mr. Johnson designed and first started to use a new minimally invasive, Arthroscopic or Key-hole surgical technique for the treatment of this condition. He has presented his technique and the results around the world including Europe, USA, South America and Australia.

The ESSKA meeting has devoted one of its sessions entirely to the results of this technique. Mr. Johnson has been invited to present the rationale for arthroscopic surgery, to describe the technique and his 10 year experience. Mr. Johnson is delighted that this technique is now accepted as the treatment of choice for this troublesome problem.
