Anterior Cruciate Ligament Study Group meeting: Big Sky Montana, USA. March 2002.

Author: Webmaster     Date: 3/21/2002

"David Johnson lectures on Osteochondral Transplantation www.aclstudygroup.com"

The ACL study group is devoted solely to the study of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament and its repair and reconstruction. The group formed 25 years ago by American Surgeons John Faegin and John Bergfelt and European Surgeons Werner Muller and Enjar Ericksson. The group meets bi-annually and attendance and membership is by invitation only. The three British members of this group are Prof. Amis a Bio-engineer from London, Derek Bickerstaff of Sheffield and Mr. David Johnson of Bristol. David has been a member since 1993.

The meeting discussed the advances in surgical treatment of the ACL ligament and the influence on knee injuries. David presented a lecture on the outcome of surgical reconstruction of articular surface damage in association with the ACL injuries and the long term assessment of the results by MRI scanning. This surgical technique may be able to reduce the chance of subsequent degeneration and arthritis which sometimes follows such injuries. The lecture generated much interest and comment and was warmly received. David described some of the modifications to the standard technique which he has incorporated which would account for the good long term results he presented.

The members of the group, and the presentations, lectures and symposia are published on the ACL Study Group Web site. For further details and information visit www.aclstudygroup.com
